In Australia the price difference between an entry-level 14-in M4 MacBook Pro (10-core CPU/10-core GPU/512GB storage/16GB memory) and the newly released M4 15-in MacBook Air with identical specifications is only A$100 – by current exchange rates that’s around US$65.
This makes for interesting choices as the two are close in size, the Air has a bigger footprint but is 4mm thinner and 40 grams lighter than the Pro.
What the Pro offers for $100 is significant: an extra Thunderbolt 4 port, SDXC card slot, HDMI 2.1 port, a smaller but higher-resolution screen with greater brightness, 120 Hz refresh rate Pro Motion display, better battery life (6 hours more), better speakers and audio output.
With such a little difference in price, why would anyone buy the 15-in Air in that spec level?
