in Safari 18.0 I notice when I go to Settings there is something at far right called “Feature Flags”–should we be fooling with them?
also could I download a bad URL/web site without knowing it?–or does everything come thru AppStore and thus is “clean”?

an additional question–In Josh’s presentation this past week on Scams–he said not to click on “Unsubscribe” in a spam email–is this for security reasons or just to not let the spammer know you are a legitimate email address?

I installed the free version of Malwarebytes in January 2023 after reading it had been recommended by AppleCare Support. I perform scans from time to time, which have never found a problem.
Is Malwarebytes the best anti-malware choice at this time? Do the Premium always-on versions impact system performance? Do you recommend purchasing a Premium version?

I am very tired of companies I never heard of telling me that they did not take proper care of my personal data. I never gave them permission to know or retain my SS Number, DOB, hat size, or whatever.
My question is: Is there any reasonable way to make them feel some pain for their malfeasance?
Even if it is a small amount of pain, if enough of us pushed back it might make a difference.

Not another question so much as a follow up to the one I asked about security breaches. This article struck a nerve

Here is another question. What can we do about these always-on microphones.

I’ve been a member of NMUG (from the UK) for a couple of years now and note that in general terms, US speakers tend to NOT recommend AntiVirus software, while speakers in the UK say it’s important that we should all use it. Because I run my business from my Mac Studio I err on the side of caution and use Intego antivirus software, which, as far as I am aware, has never impacted on the speed of my device. Today I saw the attached message. Now I’m guessing that if I weren’t running Antivirus my machine would have been compromised this morning, or would Apple’s av protection have found these critters and strangled them?

1. With all the recent security breaches of companies “dedicated to keeping my private information secure” yet, even their own present and ex-employees are accessing and selling my data, how can I better protect myself?
2. Which is better for me, Credit Freeze or Credit Lock?

My biggest question is: should we get security software for our family’s Macs, iPhones, and iPad; and if so which one and why?

As part of my SetApp subscription ( thanks to Dan Wassink for the SetApp tip:) I have been running the Clean my Mac weekly and it comes with Moonlock for Malware detection. So far, it has not flagged any issues. Guessing it does not do any harm and may just give me peace of mind but is this or any Malware/Virus software worthwhile?

Working remotely at a coffee shop ( eg Starbucks ) what is best practice to protect myself while using free WIFI? Is there a simple ( preferably low cost in time and money ) that can work equally well for Mac OS laptop AND for IOS or iPad OS using iPhone or iPad. ??

Does one need and if so what company/companies are best for dealing with identity theft – prevention and correction = I know of Lifelock and Aura and Avast and DeleteMe and have tried some of them but renewal is coming up and I’d like to determine the best. And if at all possible a company which can be trusted not to divulge info themselves and to deal with issues with minimal surveillance from me – I don’t mind being involved and active, but don’t want to deal with the issue 24/7/365 – would like to be able to delegate most tasks.

Several of my clients are being offered a product on their iPhones by AT&T called ActiveArmor which is supposed to block unwanted callers, etc—-free to start but an upgrade is pushed for $3.99 per month–is it worth it?

another question for Dennis–in view of National Public Data breech in Aug, 2024 I have noticed several “authentic tech sites” which are recommending that since our Gmail logins have been breeched, we should go to all sites where we used our gmail as the User Name and CHANGE the USER Name!!–I have over 275 sites in my 1Password–I use my Gmail as user in many of those sites–is this over the top???

Hi Dennis,
I am interested in your opinion of the new Passwords app, specifically what you think of the fact that Passwords does not have its own password like, for example, 1Password.
A related question is: how secure is your iCloud account relative to an account such as iPassword. Is that a weakness that we should worry about?
Thanks in advance for your opinions.
