I have a Samsung 2T SSD which I use for backup using Carbon Copy Cloner. The snapshots take up a lot of room and I want to delete most of them to free up space. It was formatted with Mac Journaled when I used Disk Utility. When I try to erase and reformat it in Disk Utility, there is no option for APPS format and I can’t delete the snapshots with its current format. My MacOS is the latest. Any suggestions?

      • Open Disk Utility. Click on “View”, select “Show All Devices”. Select your Samsung SSD Media in the Disk Utility sidebar, not the volume below it. Click on “Erase” in the Disk Utility tool bar. In the dropdown, select Scheme: GUID Partition Map, then select Format: APFS. Click on “Erase” at the bottom right of the dropdown. Wait until it’s done.

        • I followed the directions but still don’t have the option to format using APFS, only Mac Journaled choices

          • I tried again and it worked. Thanks

              • When selecting a drive/destination in Carbon Copy Cloner you can opt not to include CCC-generated snapshots in such backups. In the same place you can also choose to reformat it in APFS if desired.

The whole reformatting business can be done in CCC without needing to involve Disk Utility at all. The attached screenshot shows my MacBook Air connected to a non-APFS Samsung T5 SSD.
