Meeting, June 10 2026 – Apple WWDC 2026 with Jeff Gamet.

Despite an unexpected last-minute scheduling challenge, today’s meeting turned into an excellent discussion of Apple’s WWDC 2026 announcements. When presenter Jeff Gamet was delayed by an urgent family matter, NMUG member Marty Jencius stepped in and provided an outstanding overview of the key WWDC developments until Jeff was able to join the meeting. Many thanks to Marty for his willingness to help on short notice.

      ### Highlights from the Discussion

      **A New Era: Siri AI**
One of the major themes of WWDC 2026 was Apple’s introduction of *Siri AI*, integrating advanced artificial intelligence throughout the Apple ecosystem. Jeff discussed Apple’s strategy of emphasizing privacy and local processing whenever possible, differentiating Apple’s approach from many cloud-based AI services.

      **Apple Intelligence Requirements**
Members learned that some of the newest AI capabilities will require newer hardware, particularly devices with sufficient memory and processing power. Older devices may still receive selected AI features through Apple’s cloud-based services, although functionality may be more limited.

      **WWDC User Interface Updates**
Marty reviewed Apple’s refinements to the Liquid Glass interface and broader efforts to create greater consistency across macOS, iOS, and other Apple platforms. Improvements to accessibility, search, and overall usability were also highlighted.

      **Parental Controls and Family Features**
One of the more surprising WWDC announcements was Apple’s expanded family and parental-control system. New tools will allow parents to more easily manage device access, communication permissions, app usage, and age-appropriate content across their children’s devices.

      **Enhanced Search and Accessibility**
Jeff discussed Apple’s plans for more intelligent system-wide search capabilities, making it easier to find documents, appointments, tasks, and other information. Significant accessibility improvements were also announced, including enhanced voice interaction and system-wide dictation features.

      **International Availability Questions**
Several members raised questions about the availability of Siri AI features outside the United States, particularly in the European Union and Great Britain. Current regulatory issues may delay certain features in some regions, and we expect additional clarification from Apple in the coming months.

As always, members are encouraged to continue the discussion and share their thoughts, experiences, and questions here on the NMUG Message Board.

Thank you to Marty Jencius for stepping in, Jeff Gamet for an engaging presentation, and all members who contributed to another lively and informative NMUG meeting.

      • There was a mention of Liz sharing a video about EU restrictions on Apple. Where can we view it?

        • Another wonderful presentation for what we can expect in the Apple environment.

But …. I try to use AI as little as possible as I’m very concerned with the environmental costs of using it. It adds up. I’m not optimistic about a future of generations to come migrating to another planet to live on when this one, Mother Earth, completely fails to support human habitation. So … I’m concerned with all things that degrade our planet and its systems. It’s a fairly constant thought for me.

Anyway … here is a link to some more info about WWDC 2026, although I haven’t gone through it yet:
